The Process of "Discipleshipification"

Jeff,

Here are my thoughts:

Clearly, there are forces that work hard to blind us from understanding our God-given purpose in life. Knowing how God has specifically wired us and what He has for us to do/be in the midst of that "wiring" is vital to walking in freedom. The moment the veil was lifted and I understood God's specific purpose for my life, the chains fell off! For years, I could not understand why I would start things but gradually lost the desire to stay engaged long term. It was as if I needed to do something new all the time! Why was I passionate about something for a season then loose my desire to continue? It was not until I came to grips with God's purpose for my life did I realize why. God has given me eyes to see that He wants me to walk along side people for a season while He works out something good in their lives. Knowing this about myself has set me free from my natural tendency to beat myself up, to walk in self-shame for what I think I "should" be or do. What a relief to know that it was God's plan all along for me to walk along side someone, bless them, then move on to the next "mission"! This understanding also helps me set healthy boundaries from the very beginning of the mission in order to minimize my tendency to over-commit (which I can be notoriously good at!) and ultimately burn myself out . It's a work in process.

Hope this is what you're looking for, Jeff.

Thanks for all you have done to help me see and articulate the above. God has obviously gifted you in this area of discovery. As I type this, I am reminded of that quote from Emotionally Healthy Spirituality "Know thyself that you may know God'. How true!
